ABOUT THIS TRACK

'Lay Me Down' is brought to life by the voices of six of Melbourne's best female vocalists in Tiaryn, Kelly Day, Leah Senior, Brooke Russell, Georgia Delves and Cookie Baker; the warmth and resonance of their voices evoking the collective female spirit.

With a four part choir arrangement written by Kelly Day of Broads this brand new single is raw and powerful and once again shows the versatility of the young band.

The song also features Jesse Williams (Girlatones) on keys, Leah Senior on lead vocal harmony and Fabian Hunter delivering an epically laid back guitar solo that will make you yearn for the olden age of rock n roll.

‘I see it as an antidote to the last single. The female voices represent community and it's about finding strength in the people around you.'

'I think as women, the connection we have to other women sometimes feels like the one thing we've got over the patriarchy.'

Lay Me Down was written when Leman was visiting Montreal, a city that was her home for two years. It’s also a love song for her partner Tom.

“I realised one day when walking the familiar streets of the Mile End that Montreal was no longer the place I wanted to be. A lot of the love and friendships I had experienced their had moved on and I felt this intense longing for Melbourne and for my community.

The song has a nostalgia to it that represents the loss of a previous life and the longing to go back there. However the energy of the band and power of the choir represents an impetus to keep moving forward.

Put simply ‘Lay Me Down’ is a melancholic love song for Melbourne and the people in it.

lyrics

LYRICS

As the flames of sunset are rising up
And the dusk crawls under to set up shop
I remember when the lights get low
How I love and how I miss you so

Lay me down on the mountain
In the middle of the town
Lay me down on the mountain
Lay me down

Oh I can hear my baby
Call me home

Lift me up in branches
Hold me in your arms a light
Oh rock me rock
The city is my baby tonight
I remember when the lights get low

How I love and how I miss you so
